Exact Z height

Post by Bill K » Thu Jun 11, 2020 10:55 am

I searched and searched, I'm afraid that my question is way too basic and old to be relevant anymore. If it ever was relevant.

Exact Z height. Probe diameter .078". My origin is off the bottom face and I need to probe a diameter EXACTLY .123 from that face. In the circle dialog box, how much do I add to the Z? For fun I added .078 and it looks REALLY close. But that can't be it right? Maybe half the diameter of the probe? I'm just not sure :(

Edit: ...and I need to report the Z height along with the diameter. So when I add the dia of the probe, it reports exactly that.

Is this bore Cylinder or Cone? If it's a Cone I would measure as such, then construct an Offset Plane 0.123 from Datum and then finally construct Circle at intersection of Cone and Plane. If you just want to measure as Circle then just set the Nominal Z to 0.123 and set depth of Circle to 0.0. Depth of Circle will be contact point - i.e. equator of stylus tip.
